PITTSBURGH, PA – With just over ten minutes left to go in a scoreless contest, La Roche College used a corner kick to set up their game winning goal against Hilbert College in women’s soccer October 16. The RedHawks moved the game to Sunday on a turf field at Shaler Area High School due to poor field conditions at the La Roche campus. The visiting Hawks dropped to 2-4 in league play and hope for a chance to claim the 6th slot for AMCC play-offs. La Roche improved to 3-2-1 with the win and moved into the 5th place.
In what appeared statistically to be an evenly played game, La Roche took command when Bethanie Morschi’s corner kick set up Lauren Nogal for the game’s first score in the 79th minute. Ten minutes later, Moreschi stole the ball from Hilbert’s keeper at 89:58 to seal the victory.
In order to qualify for the AMCC play-offs, the Hawks need to win at least one game of their next three contests and closely watch the game results of both Franciscan University and Medaille College. The Hawks have to focus on what they can control: an away contest at Penn State Behrend October 19 before they return home to honor their seniors Saturday, October 22 (Penn State Altoona). Hilbert closes out the AMCC league portion of their schedule when they face cross-town rival Medaille College October 25 at All-High Stadium.
Hilbert College, located in suburban Hamburg, N.Y., south of Buffalo, is a private four-year college founded in 1957 in the Catholic Franciscan tradition. With nearly 1,100 students, Hilbert is a dynamic Western New York college that offers career-focused majors, including one of the top criminal justice programs in the region, and more than 50 minors and concentrations. The college’s engaging, student-centered campus community offers numerous leadership, internship and service learning opportunities from which students launch successful careers while making positive changes in their communities. Hilbert has expanded its academic offerings with the college’s first graduate programs, one a master’s in criminal justice administration and the other a master’s in public administration, and new Accelerated Degree Programs geared to adult learners.
