GREENVILLE, PA - Returning to campus after a 4-1 loss to Thiel College, the men’s soccer team now looks forward to starting AMCC league play this coming weekend. Greg Zitnik scored the lone Hilbert goal September 22 as the Hawks drop to 0-7-1.
First half stats indicate Thiel took two shots (one crossbar), and five corner kicks all within the first eleven minutes of the contest and only two other shots the remaining thirty-four minutes. Yosief Woldegebriel pushed the ball past Hilbert’s Kamil Cislak for Thiel’s first score at 31:35. Allen Kuechenmeister was credited with Thiel’s second goal six minutes later.
Hilbert, in contrast, had more on-goal opportunities (missed penalty kick at 4-minute mark; eight shots - five saves - and two corner kicks). With only twenty-four seconds left in the first half, Zitnik found the back of the net sending the teams to intermission at 2-1. James Knapp found Zitnik’s foot to assist in the goal.
The wheel seemed to come off the wagon after intermission when the Hawks gave up their third goal of the afternoon just forty-seven seconds into the second half. From that point, the team’s played even the rest of the period until Matt Thompson scored the final goal at 82:05.
Andrew Hindman made seven saves for Thiel while Kamil Cislak stopped two. The Hawks outshot Thiel (15-10) but the visitors could not connect inside the netting. Of the team’s eight shots-on-goal, Eric Russell and David Walkow each had two each while Ed Heffron and Scott Cvetkovski (two defenders) ripped a shot at net.
September 24, the Hawks host Pitt-Greensburg in a 1pm contest prior to the women’s game. This opens up the AMCC portion of the game schedule.
