MORRISVILLE, NY – The Hilbert College men’s soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie against Morrisville State College September 19. After 110 minutes of aggressive play, the Hawks return to Hamburg still searching for their first win of the season.
The Mustangs were first to score when Jeff Sekyere placed a deflection from David Cerasani past Hilbert’s Kamil Cislak with just under 10 minutes left to play in the first half.
Then, in the second half, with about 10 minutes left in the game, junior Ed Sarcione put the Hawks on the board after Eric Russell set him up with a one-on-one opportunity against Morrisville’s Shane Sullivan. This is the second match in a row that the Russell to Sarcione hook-up led to a goal for Hilbert.
During the two 10-minute overtime periods, both teams played even statistically. They both had six shots on goal, one corner kick each, and one save each by the keepers. Cislak finished the day with 10 saves while Sullivan grabbed 6 saves for Morrisville.
The Hawks (0-6-1) travel with the women’s soccer team September 21 to compete in a double header at Thiel College. They both then open their AMCC portion of the soccer schedules September 24 when the Hawks host Pitt-Greensburg in a 1pm/3pm double header.
