Women's Lacrosse Opens With Win

STEUBENVILLE, OH – The reality of finally being able to play their first regular lacrosse game of the season hit the Hawks hard today. Hilbert found themselves behind several times each quarter but fought back and captured the lead with less than two minutes remaining. Rachel Bergman netted the game winner as the Hawks held on for a 9-8 opening victory over Franciscan University March 12.

Sarah Lorusso’s 4 tallies led the Hilbert offense while Bergman supported with 3 scores. Meghan Stewartwas credited with six saves in net going the full game on frame lockdown. 

Franciscan opened the day with two goals before Lorusso tied it up by the end of the 1st quarter. Hilbert surrendered three more scores and found themselves down 5-2 at intermission.

Chantelle Mikolajczak cut the difference just after the break, but Franciscan kept their hold over the Hawks. Slowly the royal and white caught up with help from Caitlyn Jacobs and Lorusso. 

Bergman found the back of the net three straight times to personally take the win away from the Barons in the fourth quarter.
