Richard James Sykora from the men’s volleyball team and Chris Parrott from the men’s basketball team have been named Hilbert College’s Co-Student-Athletes of the Month for February, 2011.
Sykora (Stow, OH/Stow Munroe Falls) started all eleven matches during February and in the 36 sets played, averaged 2.11 kills, 2.92 assists and 2.78 digs per set. His game best hitting percentage was against nationally ranked Nazareth College on February 22nd with .333 (8-3-15). His match high kills for the month was in a three-set game against Eastern Mennonite University Feb. 12th when he had 12 kills. Against Thiel College February 26th, Sykora earned 15.5 points (10-3-2.5), his match high for the season. The senior captain has proven to be a versatile player acting as the team’s setter at times during the season. He passed for 35 assists, and had 7 blocks in the Hawks solo victory match against Emerson (Feb. 13) in the Endicott Tourney. That same day against Hunter College, Sykora earned 15 digs.
Sykora currently carries a 3.77 cumulative grade point average majoring in Political Science
Parrott (Warsaw, NY/Warsaw) started all 8 games in February where the Hawks went 5-3. The junior guard/forward, who has NCAA sophomore status, led Hilbert with 34.5 minutes per game and his 15.4 points/8.0 rebounds per game were both second best on the squad for the month of February. Parrott led the team in blocks (6) and defensive rebounds (48) while shooting 44.6% FG and 70% FT. Parrott had three games where he earned a double-double (Franciscan 23 pts, 13 reb; Mt. Aloysius 19 pts, 10 rebs; and Mt. Aloysius 14 pts, 15 rebs). His all-around play was a leading reason the Hawks finished fourth in league standings, earning the right to host a home game for the AMCC play-offs.
Parrot is majoring in Criminal Justice and carries a cumulative 2.64 GPA.
