Dan McFarland from the men’s basketball team and Adam Weaver from the men’s volleyball team have been named Hilbert College’s Co-Student-Athletes of the Month for January, 2011.
McFarland (Lancaster, NY/St. Mary’s) started 8 of the 9 games played in January when the Hawks went 4-5 (4-1 in front of their home crowd). The sophomore guard had two monster games hitting thirty-plus points (Penn State Altoona and Pitt-Bradford). In the nine games played in January, McFarland scored 171 points, grabbed 35 rebounds, passed for 22 assists, swiped 17 steals for averages of: 19 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.8 steals. He was the leading scorer, leader in three-point field goal percentage (50%), leader in shot attempts (124) and second on the team in steals, assists and blocks (5).
McFarland is majoring in Criminal Justice and carries a cumulative 3.04 GPA.
Weaver (Stow, OH/Archbishop Hoban) led his team during their first month of competition in the newly formed United Volleyball Conference (UVC). The Hawks participated in the SUNYIT Tournament and in a single non-conference game against D’Youville College. Weaver opened his collegiate career with 58 kills (4.1 per set) and a hitting percentage of .306 at the SUNYIT tourney. The Outside Hitter added 18 digs and two service aces which helped earn him the inaugural Rookie of the Week award in the UVC. In the last three-set match of the January, Weaver had 10 kills and 8 digs in the loss at D’Youville College. The Hawks finished January 0-5 with the freshman leading the charge across the net.
Weaver currently carries a 4.0 GPA while majoring in the Criminal Justice program
